Things That Are Made

Romans 1:20

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead

Ray Manzarek (or maybe Jim Morrison) said “There are things you know about, and things you don’t, the known and the unknown, and in between are The Doors…”

I see it this way: there are the things you want to be true, and the things that are true. In between those things are doors. To walk through the doors you have to be willing to put aside the things you want to be true, no matter how much you want them to be true, and pursue the things that are true. You have to be willing to put aside superstition, tradition, and fear of the unknown. Otherwise, the doors are closed.

It’s not religion that seeks the truth, it’s science. Science is the study of things that are made. If God left any breadcrumbs for us to follow, we find them by understanding the things that are made. The ocean currents, fault lines, bacteria, the stars. Geologists and archaeologists and microbiologists and biochemists and physicists and every other scientist studies “the things that are made”. Medicine, DNA, evolution, climate change, quantum mechanics, dinosaurs, asteroids, electricity, gravity, honey bees - all the clues are there.

All of that knowledge paints a picture of the invisible things of God.

Not the things you wish were true. Just the things that are true.
